Family portraits
The art of remembering the little things.
Childhood has a peculiar way of moving quickly. One minute, someone's missing two front teeth; the next, they're borrowing your car. The family dog gets older, the kids get taller, and somehow everyone looks a little different from the last time you thought to take a picture.
Family photographs give us a way to hold on to some of it.
I approach family photography with the belief that a good photograph should tell you something about the people in it. Not just what they looked like on a particular afternoon, but how they laughed, how they fit together, and the particular brand of chaos that makes them a family.
My sessions are relaxed and lightly directed. Rather than arranging everyone into a series of increasingly uncomfortable poses, I'll give you prompts, encourage a little movement, and let things unfold. There will be opportunities for the traditional everyone-looking-at-the-camera portrait, of course. Grandparents deserve that one. But we'll also make room for the unexpected moments that tend to become everyone's favorites.
